CFC Board Elections Update

Later this year, CFC plans to conduct elections to fill eight seats on the CFC Board of Directors. Traditionally, these elections are held at the NRECA Regional Meetings.

Unfortunately, due to the unusual and uncertain circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic, NRECA announced the cancellation of the 2020 slate of five in-person regional meetings. In lieu of these in-person meetings, NRECA is planning a virtual “Regional Meetings Week.”

“CFC is working closely with NRECA to determine the best path forward, and we are hopeful to continue the tradition of holding NRECA Regional Meetings and CFC District Meetings together,” CFC Senior Vice President of Corporate Relations Brad Captain said. “We want to make sure the process is as seamless as possible for candidates and voting members when we hold our CFC Board of Directors elections this fall. We will share additional information as soon as it is available.”

In the interim, the district nominating committees are working to develop a slate of candidates in accordance with CFC bylaws. Nominating committees have been activated for Districts 4, 5, 6 and 9 and soon will be activated soon for Districts 2, 3, 8 and 10. Contact the Nominating Committee chairmen with submissions:

  • District 2 – Michael Couick, President and CEO, Electric Cooperatives of South Carolina
  • District 3 – Gary Smith, President and CEO, PowerSouth Energy Cooperative
  • District 4 – Patrick O’Loughlin, President and CEO, Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives

Requests for candidates are being transmitted electronically to CFC members, along with information regarding eligibility requirements and the duties performed by CFC board members. To be considered for nomination, those interested must complete a “Prospective CFC Director Candidate Acknowledgement and Agreement” as well as a “Prospective CFC Director Candidate Questionnaire.” These documents will also be transmitted electronically to CFC members and are available on the CFC Member Website.

Nominating Deadlines Approach

To ensure nominating committees have adequate time to develop a slate of candidates and present them to voting members, there are deadlines for each district for potential candidates to submit the necessary documents. The first deadline for potential candidates is June 4 for District 4.
