CFC CEO Sheldon Petersen and Senior Vice President of Member Services Joel Allen join CFC Vice President of Corporate Communications Charles Gloeckner to discuss how rural broadband expansion demonstrates electric cooperatives’ commitment to their communities as the pandemic increases the importance of access to broadband as more people work, learn, shop and receive healthcare at home. They also share broadband project experiences from across the network, recommend taking a measured approach by conducting a feasibility study, breaking projects into phases and evaluating take rates compared to business plan assumptions.
CFC recently hosted two webinars and published an issue brief focused on broadband accounting considerations along with two case studies. The brief provides an overview of the accounting considerations electric cooperatives will need to keep in mind when starting a broadband project as well as managing the telecommunications business. The case studies highlight two broadband business plans for a subsidiary and division structure approach.
