Amazon To Use Custom Electric Delivery Vehicles Beginning in 2022

Amazon announced the company expects to have 10,000 custom electric delivery vehicles on the road by 2022. As part of its commitment to be net-zero carbon by 2040, Amazon expects to have 100,000 new electric vans delivering packages by 2030. Utility Dive reported Amazon needs to electrify its fleet in order to avoid reliance on carbon offsets and to meet its Climate Pledge by 2040.


Natural Gas Generators Are the Largest Share of U.S. Generation Capacity

The EIA reported natural gas-fired generators accounted for 43 percent of operating U.S. electricity generating capacity and provided 39 percent of electricity generation in 2019. Natural gas-fired capacity surpassed coal-fired generators in 2018 to become the most used electricity generating technology. Recently installed combined-cycle systems are more efficient than steam or combustion turbines and use less natural gas to produce the same amount of electricity.
