CFC CEO Andrew Don (left) joined MUFG Securities Managing Director and Capital Markets Strategist Tom Joyce (right) to discuss the current state of the financial markets and monetary policy. “Speaking of the Fed, they continue to say that their target inflation is 2 to 2.5 percent,” Joyce said. “I think we have to take the Fed at their word for now. I agree with the sentiment of your question that the new normal for inflation needs to increase. They are sending a message to us very clearly that they are not going to stop [raising rates] until inflation is addressed.”

CFC At-Large Director and the CEO of Georgia Transmission Corporation Barbara Hampton (left) discussed how former professional poker player Annie Duke (right) combined her studies in cognitive science and poker into a new career as an author and decision strategist. “We like to think in dichotomies, like good versus evil,” Duke said. “I think that it’s true for grit and quit as well. We think that they are sort of opposing forces with grit as a virtue and quit as a vice. Quitting just means stopping something that you started. The problem is that bias against quitting makes us continue to waste more. What you have to do is solve for the hard part first so you’re reducing the sunk costs.”

President and CEO of Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corporation Buddy Hasten (left) spoke with retired Air Force Major General Brett Williams (right) about the threats to our national cybersecurity and electric grid. “Russia and China over the last several years have been working very hard to get footholds and to establish the capabilities to attack our critical infrastructure,” Williams said. “The part of the critical infrastructure they’re heavily focused on is the electric grid. They’re going to go after the smaller company. Like it or not, you are on the front line to defending America in cyberspace, particularly from the perspective of our electric grid.”

CFC Board President and General Manager and CEO of Norris Public Power District Bruce Vitosh sat down with two-time NFL MVP and Super Bowl champion Kurt Warner to discuss his journey to the NFL. “The fact that it wasn’t always easy, that there were ups and downs and there were times that you were told no or people said you couldn’t do something, that’s what shapes us and makes us who we are,” Warner said. “So much of my life has been about the journey and shaping not only who I would become on the football field, but more importantly, who I wanted to be off the field. A lot of that was learned as I was going through the tough times, as I was going through those moments where I wondered what the future was going to look like. It pushed me to do certain things differently and to think about life a little bit differently. When I finally got to the point where I was playing in the NFL, it’s not just about throwing passes, it’s about what else can we do off the field.”
