‘Shark Tank’ Star To Deliver Keynote at NCSC Remote Annual Meeting

Entrepreneur, TV host and investor Kevin O’Leary will deliver the keynote address at the NCSC Annual Membership Meeting on August 6. The virtual meeting will also feature voting on director elections and bylaw amendments along with a president’s report. O’Leary will be joined by CEO Sheldon Petersen for a candid conversation on the state of the economy and how electric cooperatives can adapt and succeed in this new reality.

O’Leary is an entrepreneur, media host and businessman widely known for his role as an investor and host on “Shark Tank,” the Emmy Award-winning reality show that offers opportunities to invest in businesses seeking cash and guidance.

O’Leary co-founded SoftKey in 1986 to create and market software that helped families keep up with the wave of home computing that was sweeping the globe at the time. Through a series of later acquisitions, the Boston-based SoftKey became the world leader in the development of educational, reference and home productivity software. The company eventually changed its name to The Learning Company and was acquired by Mattel Toy Company in 1999 in a $4.2 billion deal that made O’Leary a multi-millionaire.

His career includes other startup and investment roles, along with a rich history of media experience. O’Leary holds investments in more than 30 private venture companies across a wide range of sectors. He is a member of Boston’s 120-year-old Hamilton Trust, the oldest investment club in America.

O’Leary was also a fixture on business news shows for a decade, first appearing on the show “SqueezePlay” and later co-hosting the daily “Lang and O’Leary Exchange” for seven years. He is a contributor to CNBC, ABC News and “Good Morning America.” A self-described “eco-preneur” who focuses on supporting environmentally friendly pursuits, he is a co-host and investor for Discovery Channel’s “Project Earth” series that explores innovative ways man can reverse global warming by implementing large-scale geo-engineering infrastructure projects. O’Leary is also an author of three books on financial literacy that guide families in navigating money and life with success.

Members can Vote During the NCSC Annual Membership Meeting to Amend the NCSC Bylaws

The official notice of meeting and delegate registration information were mailed to all NCSC voting members in early July. At this meeting, members will have the opportunity to vote to amend the NCSC bylaws to allow for remote participation in annual and special meetings. This will enable NCSC to conduct official business and director elections in unusual circumstances where it is not possible to convene in-person business meetings. More information about the proposed amendments, which are supported by the NCSC Board of Directors, and the meeting can be found on the NCSC Member Website homepage.

Members Should Register for the NCSC Annual Membership Meeting by August 4

Members can register for the special membership meeting until Tuesday, August 4. Members are encouraged to invite staff and board members to register and attend the special meeting.

In order to transact business at the Annual Membership Meeting, a quorum of at least 10 percent of membership must be established. Member CEOs and general managers can certify voting and alternate delegates for their system by Tuesday, August 4. Even if a member system votes by mail ballot, delegates are asked to attend the virtual meeting so the member can be counted toward the quorum.
