Earn the Cooperative Financial Professional Certificate Next Year

Registration is now open for the spring and fall 2025 sessions of the Cooperative Financial Professional Certificate (CFPC)—an intensive training program that equips senior and mid-level electric cooperative finance and accounting staff, CEOs and other non-financial senior leaders with skills that deepen their understanding of electric cooperative utility finance.

“The CFPC curriculum looks at a hypothetical cooperative with an emphasis on practical financial forecasting and policy development, rate design and trend analysis, as well as equity, debt and cash management,” CFC Financial Training Development Supervisor Rebecca Kinnish said. “Participants also learn about leadership, business stewardship and communicating with key stakeholders.”

CFPC consists of a two-part program with online resources and work assignments focused on using scenario-based curriculum to delve into real-world cooperative financial issues. The first session takes place at the Fluno Center for Executive Education at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. The second session takes place at CFC headquarters in Dulles, Virginia. Participants can choose either the spring program, Session 1 April 25–May 2 (Wisconsin) and Session 2 June 9–13 (Virginia), or the fall program, Session 1 August 18–22 (Wisconsin) and Session 2 October 13–17 (Virginia).

At the culmination of the program, students complete a final capstone report. As part of this report, participants work with their cooperative leadership to identify a strategic challenge and apply the knowledge and skills they acquired during the program to conduct a financial analysis and provide a recommendation to leadership.

CFPC participant Jordan Hildreth, vice president of finance and administration at Pee Dee Electric in Lilesville, North Carolina, shared: “The program equipped me with skills that could be immediately applied to my day-to-day tasks and provided a deeper understanding of the various elements that impact the financial stability of the cooperative. I would highly recommend this program to anyone interested in expanding their cooperative financial expertise.”
