The politically opposite husband-and-wife duo of James “The Ragin’ Cajun” Carville and Mary Matalin will keynote the 51st CFC Annual Membership Meeting on March 2 in New Orleans.
Self-described as “holding the mantle of the nation’s most politically opposed, ideologically mismatched and intensely opinionated couple,” the pair will survey the current and upcoming political landscape facing our nation in this intense election year.
Carville is one of America’s best-known political consultants. His long list of electoral successes highlights a knack for steering overlooked campaigns to unexpected victories and for remaking political underdogs into upset winners. His winning streak began in 1986, when he managed the gubernatorial victory of Robert Casey in Pennsylvania. Over the course of the next five years, Carville helped guide two more governors and two senators to election triumph. Of course, his most prominent victory was in 1992 when he helped William Jefferson Clinton win the presidency. He is also a best-selling author, actor, producer, talk-show host, speaker and restaurateur. Carville serves as a professor of practice at Tulane University in New Orleans.
Matalin is one of the most celebrated and popular conservative voices in America. As an author, television and radio host, she has become noted for her straightforward manner and insightful political repartee. Among her many roles and accomplishments, she served under President Ronald Reagan and made her mark as George H.W. Bush's campaign director. Most recently, she served as assistant to President George W. Bush and as assistant and counselor to Vice President Dick Cheney, making her the first White House official to hold that double title. In recent years, Matalin has made frequent television appearances as a political commentator, securing a career in conservative media advocacy following decades of work in the GOP political trenches. She also accepted an appointment as a visiting distinguished lecturer in political science at Loyola University in New Orleans.
The official notice of meeting and delegate registration information were mailed to all CFC voting members in early January. Look for more information about Annual Meeting details and training opportunities in the Events section of the CFC Member Website.
