Hampton Reflects on CFC At-Large Director Role, CFC

As Georgia Transmission Corporation President and CEO Barbara Hampton winds down her second three-year term as the financial expert on the CFC Board of Directors, she took a moment to reflect on her time with the board and to provide some advice for those considering running for this unique role.

“When I ran for the board, the timing was right,” Hampton said. “At that time of my career, I had the capacity to do it and I had good folks working with me because you’re routinely out of the office and there’s a lot of responsibility. I’d like to share a big thank you to my team at Georgia Transmission for their support of my journey.”

Hampton’s second CFC board term will end following the 2025 CFC Annual Membership Meeting, when the at-large candidate elect joins the board.

“When I was first elected to the CFC board, I was the chief financial officer at Georgia Transmission Corporation and later became the CEO,” Hampton said. “Being on the CFC Board of Directors made me better at both jobs by providing the opportunity to get more exposure to other perspective, world-class speakers and to be able to see how other organizations run their businesses.”

During her time on the board, Hampton gained a new respect for the level of professionalism within CFC. She is confident that CFC staff will be able to maintain their laser focus of stewarding CFC to do what’s right for members as well as rise to meet the challenges facing the electric cooperative network today and into the future.

“The most rewarding experience I have had on the board was being part of the CEO search committee, selecting Andrew Don to be CFC’s next CEO and watching CFC add new products and services,” Hampton said. “The second most rewarding experience was the rapport I developed with the other board members. My husband and I have absolutely cherished the relationships that we have developed with folks from all over the country.”

When asked about what qualifications she had that made her feel she was a good fit for the role, Hampton replied, “My whole career has been in finance and I brought experience in both the capital markets and public company reporting, as well as private placements, interest rate hedging and GAPP accounting. Fundamentally, I just believed that my experience provided me a strong background to serve CFC and our members.”
